Kevin is currently a Sergeant in the US Army pursuing a Master of Science in Information Studies with a focus on cybersecurity, through the Army’s Green to Gold Active Duty Option commissioning program. In May 2022, Kevin will receive his commission as an Army Cyber Operations Officer.  Kevin worked in Military Intelligence as an Intelligence Analyst, Security Manager, and Assistant Special Security Representative. Before joining the service, he attended the University of Houston and graduated as a double major in the disciplines of Political Science and Anthropology. Post-graduation he spent time working in municipal government, non-profit community organization, and the energy sector. Ultimately, he decided to follow his calling and joined the United States Army graduating from the Intelligence School at Fort Huachuca. While working as an Analyst he became exposed to the ever-evolving threat of cybersecurity, information security, identity manipulation, and Industrial Control Systems. Kevin desires to be at the forefront of this nation’s premier threat from both state and non-state actors. In November of 2021, Kevin was selected to join the United States Army’s Cyber Command as a Cyber Operations Officer. Long term goals, Kevin would like to continue his career in the Unites States Army.

During his time at the School of Information Kevin has taken classes in Machine Learning, Data Wrangling, Python Programming, Blockchain, IT Security Fundamentals, Database Management, Cyber Security, and Intelligence in the Information Community. He is a current member of Texas Cyber Security Society, Military Officers Association of America and a Robert Strauss Cybersecurity Fellow.

Data Wrangling 

Our project will be an assessment of whether oil has any effect on a country’s happiness index. We have various data on oil, military spending, population by country, and happiness, created with the annual World Happiness Report (WHR) as the basis.

Machine Learning 

Our project focused on bringing OCR technology to small business owners looking to automate data entry and create a payroll pipeline.

Winter 2021 / 2022

9/12 Cyber Challenge 

The Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge is a one-of-a-kind cyber competition designed to provide students from across academic disciplines with a deeper understanding of the policy and strategy challenges associated with management of tradeoffs during a cyber crisis. Below is the drafted policy memorandum  my team put forward in response to a simulated supply chain attack.

Facial recognition technology is quickly becoming a tool that is associated with unethical authoritarian control. How can we as information professionals change the narrative of this technology and build ethics into its infrastructure? What controls can we apply and who should oversee implementing them?
